Dimapur, September 15, 2014: Naga Hoho (NH) has vehemently condemned the “barbaric act” of Karbi underground cadres in “manhandling” innocent Rengma women folks who were frisked and misbehaved with while they were on their way to attend Church service.

In a press release, NH communication cell said even the women’s cell-phones were looted. Threat to any citizen for attending a Church service in itself destroyed the very foundation of secularism and the same should be condemned by all cutting across race, colour, region, religion.

Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, Naga Hoho said befitting punishment should be accorded at the earliest without any delay. “Karbi cadres are further warned not to tease Nagas with our religious sentiments”, said Naga Hoho.

The hoho also said Karbi cadres issuing “shoot at sight” and “flush out orders” could not and would not be tolerated by Nagas and requested Karbi elders to guide their people in the right direction.

Naga Hoho said that the return of displaced Rengmas to their ancestral land should be considered as a significance of prevailing good times and should not provoke Rengma Nagas by putting up the question of who gave them the guarantee of their safety in their own land.

The inefficient Assam Police’s failure to bring justice to Late Nzankheng Rengma who was murdered yet again displayed the role of Assam Government in planting divisive policy to rule across the borders, allowing the culprits to take advantage and incite hatred amongst the various communities residing in border areas, said Naga Hoho.

The hoho reminded that a little relief and peace had been prevailing between Karbis and Nagas after the intervention of various civil societies under the aegis of Naga Hoho and the Karbi Anglong collective civil bodies. Incidents like this if turned a deaf ear to by all communities, organisations or groups would only disrupt the relationship and peaceful co-existence, said Naga Hoho.
