CCPur, September 12, 2014 : A one day workshop on International Humanitarian Law jointly organized by the Good Samaritan Foundation and the Rural Development & Research Agency was held at the Churachandpur office of Kuki Inpi at Tubuong today.

During the workshop, President of Kuki Inpi Manipur Thangsei Haokip and IGNOU Co-ordinator Dr.Vungzamawi were present as resource persons.

Speaking to the gathering, KIM president Thangsei Haokip said Armed Non-state Actors (ANSAs) aim to promote their adherence to deed of commitment for adherence to a total ban on anti-personal mines.

The Deeds of Commitment (DoC) are for protection of Children from the effects of armed conflict which was launched in the late 2010 .

He further said DoC is for the prohibition of sexual violence in situations of armed conflict and towards the elimination of gender discrimination which was published in June 2012 .

The three DoCs reflect international standards, which provide ANSAs with the opportunity to express their willingness to abide by humanitarian norms and take ownership of the rules, he said and added that signatory of ANSA's agree to take necessary enforcement measures and to take a cooperative with the Geneva Cell in the scrutiny of their compliance.

The KIM president also said that where ANSA are not yet ready to signed the DoCs, or undertake a similar commitment, Geneva Call favours a progressive step by step approach to reduce the impact of conflict on civilian populations.
