“In order to win people’s confidence and restore public trust, we have decided to begin the measures like holding of public grievances meeting, intensify police patrolling, and setting up of five new security check gates in vital locations with CCTV facility”, disclosed Director General of Police (DGP) S Nithianandam while addressing a press conference at the Police Headquarters here today.
Other measures being adopted include reactivation of police beat system which will push for servant and tenants verification, intensive traffic checking, and establishment of Anti-Extortion Cell in Police department to tackle the scourge of extortion, donation collection, etc, the DGP added.
The DGP, who was flanked by IGP (Law & Order) ID Shukla, IGP (Admn) N Payeng, AIGP Tusar Taba, Capital SP Seju P Kuruvilla and SP (SB) Nabam Gungte, said, “At this junction, the requirement is to promote mutual trust…If you suffer something you should reveal it (to police).” Nithianandam said, “Instructions have been given to all SPs to hold public grievances meeting particularly in city areas once in a month to address the grievances of market associations, student unions and residential welfare associations and the minutes of such meetings have to be sent to PHQ.”
Asserting that nakas and patrolling by police teams has been intensified to instill a sense of confidence among the public, the DGP informed that additional five check gates with CCTV facility are being established across Papum Pare district.
The DGP said traffic police are going to act heavily against the violators of traffic rules especially those without number plates and proper documents like insurance papers.
IGP (Law & Order) ID Shukla said, “We have learnt a lesson from the Chako case and we will not allow such incident to happen again.”
