Imphal, September 19, 2014: The United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), hauled up three members of a gang involved in kidnapping and extortion in the name of the organization today.

The apprehended gang members were identified as Thongpao, 40, s/o Jangkhothang, Sokom village, Chandel district, Vungneithang, 28, s/o Chongneithang, Bungsanglen village, Churachandpur district and Johna, 29, s/o Seimang, Pellhang village, Paren district, Nagaland.

While briefing mediapersons somewhere in Chandel district, MP Haokip, Joint Secretary of UKLF said that on receiving specific information regarding some members of a gang indulging in kidnapping and extortion in the name of UKLF who were taking shelter in and around Sugnu area, a team of UKLF cadres, after thorough investigation, pulled up three individuals from their hideout early this morning.

After interrogation, the organization learnt that the gang members were operating in and around Sagang area, Churachandpur district in the name of the UKLF and came to take shelter in Sugnu area after kidnapping one individual engaged in construction work of school building from Sagang area, the Joint Secretary said further.

When the UKLF cadres went to nab the gang members, the kidnapped individual had already escaped from his captors and took shelter at the sugnu police station.

The Joint secretary further said that the organization decided to hand over the apprehended persons to the Assam Rifles and police in order to show the outfit's sincerity being a signatory of SoO agreement with the government.

While appealing to the general public and authorities concerned not to be misled by the activities of such antisocial elements, Haokip warned that if any individual or group of individuals indulge in kidnapping and extortion in the name of the organisation to tarnish the good image of the UKLF in future, the organisation would not remain a mute spectator.

He further said that being a part of the SoO signatories, the organization strictly abides and adheres to the ground rules of the agreement in true spirit till date but the organization would not tolerate any individual or group of individuals working to tarnish the good image of the organization in future.

Later, the apprehended gang members were handed over to the 22 Assam Rifles Sugnu Post in the presence of some civil organisation leaders who in turn handed them over to the Sugnu police station.
