New Delhi, September 19, 2014 (NNN): As part of an initiative by the Delhi police to sensitise its police forces about North East, its people and their cultures, all its officer trainees will be touring the North East soon with the help of the State police in the region.
“The tour is intended to give them proper exposure about the rich and diverse heritage of the region, which in turn will help the police officers to better understand and build a positive bond while dealing with the problems and issues faced by NE people in Delhi,” informed IGP Robin Hibu, Nodal Officer for NE people in Delhi police.
The latest move of the Delhi police is part of its safety and protective measures for the NE people residing in the national capital following reports of discriminations on the people from the region.
Earlier, a nodal officer for railway stations and metro for the NE people in New Delhi has been appointed in order to address the rising cases of crime.
“With the rising crime against NE people in metro cities especially in Delhi, the ACP Railways of Delhi Police has been nominated as the Nodal Officer for Railways and Metro for crime against NE people,” Hibu said.
Again, as part of the safety measures, a self-defence Karate training for NE women in Delhi will start from October 4 at DDA Squash & Badminton Auditorium, Sirifort, New Delhi.
The year-long programme is an initiative of the Delhi Police to train NE women in self-defence against eve-teasing, molestation, sexual assault, rape, etc. The training will be held every Saturday and Sunday from 4 pm to 6 pm.
Apart from the self-defence training for women, the Delhi Police will also be organising a Hindi class for NE youth in the same venue from 6 pm-7 pm.
