Agartala, September 19, 2014: After receiving approval from Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF), Tripura Government has cleared a proposal for denotifying of a 12.4 km plot inside Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary in South Tripura district, official sources confirmed here today.

The MoEF has cleared the plea of denotifying 12.4 km of forest land area in the Sanctuary following a request from the State Government to push railway extension work from Udaipur to Sabroom, said Forest Minister Naresh Jamatia at the Civil Secretariat here.

“Based on the approval of MoEF, the Cabinet has cleared the proposal for de-notifying the plot in its last sitting removing a major obstacle for the railway extension work upto Sabroom”, he said.

The 70 km railway extension work from Udaipur to Sabroom is supposed to be completed by 2018 while 44 km extension work from Agartala to Udaipur is secluded to be completed by March 2016. The entire track length would be constructed in Broad-Gauge (BG) format.

NFR General Manager (Construction) Rajesh Kumar Singh met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Transport Minister Manik Dey on September 2 to brief them about the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR)’s plan on railway extension work in Tripura.
