Dimapur, October 27, 2014 (NNN): The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has submitted a five-point demand to Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju recently pertaining to series of attacks on the North East people in Delhi and elsewhere.
The first demand is for setting up of Special Police Cell in all the Metros which will cater specifically to cases related to racial discrimination and atrocities on students and people from North East in line with the Delhi model, with a provision that it is manned by police officers from NE States.
NESO has also demanded capital punishment to the perpetrators of heinous crimes at the earliest. The NESO memorandum also includes the demand for inclusion of the North East – its geographical location, its people, its culture, its ethos, etc., – in the syllabus of schools under all State Boards and Central Boards including the CBSE.
It further demanded that the Government of India should make one time recruitment of at least 5,000 Delhi police personnel in the capitals of eight NE States. NESO also demanded the enactment of a stringent law to deal with such crimes against the people from NE.
The memorandum drew the attention of the Minister to the recent incidents in Bangalore and Gurgaon on October 15 and October 16. It added that these incidents of assaults, molestations are happening on a frequent basis resulting in a feeling of insecurity especially among the womenfolk.
NESO also sought his intervention with the Karnataka and Haryana Governments and do the needful for effective measures to be taken by the authorities which could give security to NE students.
