Guwahati, Aug 29 – Raids by the sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continued for the second day in Guwahati with the investigators carrying out searches in two houses owned by Manoranjana Sinh, estranged wife of former MP Matang Sinh, in connection with the multi-crore rupee Saradha chit-fund scam.

Singer Sadananda Gogoi, who is believed to have played the role of an introducer between former Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Saradha chief Sudipto Sen, has been taken to CBI’s Kolkata office for questioning.

Gogoi, according to sources, was also the link between the then DGP Sankar Baruah and Sen.

It is rumoured that Gogoi had divulged some crucial feeds to the investigating agency during preliminary questioning.

The CBI sleuths also carried out searches in the office of Frontier TV news channel located in Maligaon area, which is also owned by Manoranjana Sinh.

The search on the Frontier TV premises was carried out for about two hours from 2.34 pm by nearly eight members of the investigating agency. Search was also carried out in News Live TV channel, which is owned by the wife of Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sinh later told mediapersons that she welcomes the investigation and would cooperate with the investigating agency.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted last evening, “I have done nothing wrong. My conscience is clear. However, law is equal to all and must take its own course. I welcome. Will come out of any allegation head high”.

The CBI on Thursday carried out searches in 14 locations in Guwahati that included houses of former Minister and Jalukbari MLA Himanta Biswa Sarma, former Minister and Amguri MLA Anjan Dutta and former DGP Sankar Baruah.
