Imphal, August 29, 2014: A score of Congress MLAs today called on Chief Minister O Ibobi urging him to effect the much anticipated Ministry reshuffle including the Speaker before leaving Imphal on a tour programme to some foreign countries.

But the MLAs returned back crestfallen as the Chief Minister did not give any assurance or comment.

Nonetheless, the MLAs held a meeting and took a one-line resolution declaring that they would not raise any objection when the Chief Minister allots ministerial portfolios to MLAs selected by the Chief Minister himself. Some MLAs would take the same resolution to the Chief Minister tomorrow.

Some Congress MLAs, on condition of anonymity, said that 19 MLAs went to the Chief Minister’s bungalow at 9.30 am today and urged the Chief Minister to complete the process of Ministry reshuffle before he embarks on his foreign tour.

However, reports say that some senior Ministers are not favourably inclined to the demand for Ministry reshuffle and they even cautioned the Chief Minister about negative impacts the Government would suffer in the event of Ministry reshuffle.

The meeting between the MLAs and the Chief Minister lasted more than an hour, and the MLAs made a strong point in favour of effecting Ministry reshuffle as soon as possible. They argued that Ministry reshuffle would not only strengthen the party but would also better serve the interest of the State.

The MLAs categorically stated that they would not raise any objection when the Chief Minister hand pick some of them for ministerial posts. They also made it clear that keeping the existing Council of Ministers unchanged would have far reaching consequences.

Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that Ministry reshuffle is a very tricky proposition. It is like dragging someone by the collar and dumping him in a pit. Then he stopped short of stating whether there would be Ministry reshuffle or not. After coming back from the Chief Minister’s bungalow, the disappointed MLAs held a meeting at the quarters of MLA Kshetrimayum Biren.

The meeting adopted a resolution which swears support to MLAs hand picked by the Chief Minister for ministerial portfolios, and the resolution was signed by all the participating MLAs. The same resolution would be submitted to the Chief Minister tomorrow.

The MLAs who called on the Chief Minister this morning included TN Haokip, T Manga Vaiphei, Dr Chaltonlien Amo, N Loken, S Bira, K Meghachandra, Y Surchandra, K Ranjit, Fazur Rahim, L Nandakumar, W Brajabidhu, N Biren, Ksh Biren, Dr Ng Bijoy, Amin Shah, Yamthong Haokip, Kh Devendra and MK Preshow Shimray.
