New Delhi, August 28, 2014: Decks have been cleared for expansion of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International (LGBI) Airport, with the Union Cabinet sanctioning the land-swap deal with the SOS Village.

Official sources said that the Cabinet, in its meeting held on Wednesday, approved the swapping of land measuring 2397 square metres with the Airport Authority of India’s (AAI) equivalent airport land measuring 2397 square metres.

The agreement would pave the way for construction of hangars at the LGBI Airport. The Secretary General, SOS Village, has already given his consent in writing for swapping of the Village land with the AAI land.

The construction of the hangar on the swapped land will facilitate development of the LGBI Airport. This decision will also help in greater social inclusion of the north-eastern region. The construction of three hangars to park a large number of aircraft will facilitate increase in the number of scheduled and non-scheduled operators to meet the growing traffic demand.
