New Delhi, September 2, 2014: Five men have been charge-sheeted for the murder of a Manipuri youth, Akha Salouni, in south Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur last July. Among these men is an LLB student, and they all have been charged with murder, attempt to murder and under sections of the SC/ST Act. The chargesheet runs into 200 pages and will be submitted before Court this week.

The accused are Shakti Basoya (21), his cousin Sanjay Basoya (24), Rajiv alias Bittu (25), Lokesh and Azad alias Bhola Dotu.

All but Azad and Lokesh are from Garhi village in Southeast Delhi; Lokesh is from Kotla Mubarakpur and Azad is from Gurgaon. Shakti is a law student in a Noida college while Sanjay is an LLB dropout; Rajiv and the rest run a taxi service and do other private jobs.

Nagender Sharma from Bihar and Dihe Kazhiri from Manipur, who were with Salouni when he was attacked and murdered, have been listed as witnesses. An auto-rickshaw driver has been listed as a witness too.

The gamchha with which Salouni was killed has been listed as the murder weapon. Police have also listed DNA and hair samples as evidence.

According to the charge-sheet, the five men were returning from a party when they had an altercation with Salouni and his friends. The men were coming in a Verna owned by Shakti to drop Lokesh home in Kotla Mubarakpur.

"Salouni was returning to his Munirka flat with his two friends after a party. He had just quit his BPO job. The accused were in a Verna and had honked for way but had an altercation with Salouni and friends. The assault was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area which show one of the men wrapping a 'gamchha' around Salouni's neck and swinging him around in the air. The men then pinned the victim to the floor and showered blows and kicks on him while shouting 'maaro maaro'," a source quoted from the chargesheet.
