Kangpokpi, September 01, 2014: Mangboi Singsit, Project Officer of Manipur North Economic Development Association (MANEDA) speaking during a seminar on the Rights of Persons with Disability held yesterday at Persian Village Community Hall, Sadar Hills, stated that most of the disabled people living in a village are the victim of domestic violence and have been dispossessed of their rights entitled to them by the constitution and the benefits at their disposal.

The seminar was jointly organized by All Disabled Union Sadar Hills (ADUSH) and MANEDA.

While briefing the activities of MANEDA for the welfare of the disabled people throughout Manipur and especially to ADUSH and SDPAM (Senapati District Disabled People Association Manipur), Mangboi Singsit continued to clarify that the MANEDA is not an aids giving agency but acted as a path-finder for the disabled groups.

ADUSH President Ahen Chongloi stressed the importance of forming the organization and lamented that ADUSH was formed to ascend the voices of the disabled peoples at a higher level.

He also said that the union was also created so as to develop systematic shares of the benefits available and urged all the disabled people in Sadar Hills to be a part of the organization and copiously support the union.

The seminar resource person Bidur, Ex-Joint Secretary of SDPAM while giving detail information on the schemes available for the disabled people and the rights entitled to them by the PWD Act, 1995 and the National Trust Act, 1999 emphasized the importance of Disability Certificate and expressed discontentment over the concern authority of their negligence in issuing Disability Certificate.

While urging all disabled people within Sadar Hills to get registered themselves by paying registration fee of Rs. 200 Kamlienlal Guite, General Secretary of ADUSH said that information regarding the union will be available the Union Information Centre at Kangpokpi Ward No 5 and the Union Office at Kangpokpi Ward No 3.
