Itanagar, September 1, 2014: Solung, the most popular festival of Adi community of Arunachal Pradesh, was celebrated across the State including Pasighat – the ‘heartland’ of Adis on Monday with traditional gaiety.

Clad in their colourful traditional dresses, a large number of Adi people residing in Capital Complex – men and women, young and old alike thronged the Solung-Mopin festival ground here to rejoice in the Solung festivities. People from other communities also enthusiastically participated in the celebration signifying the unity in diversity.

Apart from the ritual parts performed to appease the Solung Goddesses for a bumper harvest and well-being of all in the universe, the festival was marked by events like presentation of a mega dance performed by around 100 women artists enthralling the festival revelers.

Presentation of folk dance and modern dance, release of Solung souvenir titled “Diigok Roli’, traditional tug-of-war between males and females, felicitation of young achievers in academic field and presentation of awards to the winners of various sports events organised to mark the festival were the other highlights.

Young Adi women came up with snacks including apong (traditional rice beer) to serve to the guests and other participants.

Speaking on the occasion, Food & Civil Supplies Minister Kamlung Mossang called upon the Adi brethrens to preserve their cultural traditions for posterity. “A community which is culturally developed can make progress in socio-economic and political fields with ease,” Mossang added while referring to the Adi’s advancement in all fronts.

Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki have also greeted the people. They expressed hope that the occasion will usher in peace and prosperity in the society.
