Mao Gate, September 07, 2014: Human greed prevails even at the plight of a helpless passenger caught in the ongoing indefinite chakka bandh imposed by United Naga Council along the National Highways and the State highways since September 4.

According to one of the duped passengers, who is now stranded at Mao-gate, Tata winger taxi services plying under the name of Tours & Travels along NH-2 between Dimapur and Imphal promised to take them till Imphal with security escort protection, and for that the passengers were charged double the normal fare, that is, Rs.1200 per passenger when the normal fare is just Rs. 600.

In their desperation to reach home, the passengers also did not think over any possible crookedness on the part of the drivers who sounded genuine.

However, upon reaching Mao, the drivers of two Tata wingers said that they were hapless and could not take them any further and dumped them there.

Not knowing where to go and what to do, the duped passengers sought the help of the local police and civil society bodies, but could not be much help as the unscrupulous drivers were not to been seen anywhere anymore.

Some of the stranded passengers whose pocket are drying up or are left with no money to hold on for any more days were seen today walking with their luggages in the scorching heat from Mao in their bid to reach Kangpokpi from where local buses were available to reach Imphal.

Meanwhile, sources from UNC confirmed that the bandh is likely to continue and that only a concrete and collective decision will be taken for any changes or new development.

With no sign of ending the bandh, the number of vehicles stranded across the border in Khuzama area has swelled up day by day.

UNC bandh supporters today intercepted an inter-state bus and a Tata mobile which were trying to slip along with an Army convoy near Tadubi.

The two vehicles were partially damaged by the bandh supporters.

On Friday, an Alto car was also damaged after it tried to escape the watchful UNC volunteers at Senapati DHQ area.

The car was allegedly carrying some 80 liters of Sekmai liquors before it was intercepted by bandh volunteers.
