Agartala, September 13, 2014: After signing an agreement with Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL), the NEEPCO has speeded up its upgradation plan for three power plants – Rukhia (63 MW), Barmura (42 MW) and Dumbur (7 MW) in Tripura, official sources said here on Thursday.
An eight-member team of Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), a Central PSU, has already inspected Dumbur hydro electric plant in Gomati district to undertake necessary study.
In course of the visit, CPRI experts examined physical condition of the turbine, open channel and dyke recently. However, the experts need to check the turbine thoroughly after putting the turbine on switch off mode.
“The CPRI team has inspected Dumbur hydro project and conducted necessary study. They will come again to check the turbine after a shut down on October 9, after the Durga puja”, said an NEEPCO official.
As per the plan, Dumbur hydro plant which is producing six/seven MW power is expected to generate 10/12 MW power after implementation of the renovation plan.
For making two power projects – Rukhia and Barmura gas thermal plants into combine cycle mode, the NEEPCO has entrusted Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) to prepare DPR by next two months and submit them before the NEEPCO for taking necessary steps.
A TCS team has already inspected Rukhia and Barmura gas thermal plants and conducted study on required space and water resources, said the official. Sufficient water supply would be required to convert the two power plants into combine cycle mode to produce more power using the same amount of gas.
Once the upgradation process gets over, more than 60 MW power would be produced from the projects. The estimated cost of the upgradation plan stands at Rs 450 crore and expenditure will be shared by both NEEPCO and TSECL.
