Kangpokpi, August 30 2014 : Dissatisfied with the progress and quality of the construction work along Imphal-Tamenglong Road from Kangpokpi to Tamei under North East Council programme, Kuki Students' Organization Sadar Hills warned of launching various agitations, if the concerned authority fails to construct the road in accordance to the NEC guidelines.

In a statement, Thangminlen Kipgen, President KSO Sadar Hills informed that a spot inspection of the construction work of IT Road Kangpokpi to Tamei by a team of KSO Sadar Hills has exposed the disappointing progress of the work which has been going on for more than two years.

Although several portions along the road were found to be as per specifications, a stretch between Chawangkining village and Thonglang Akutpa village is still in its previous condition, added the student body chief.

He also pointed out that various portions of the thinly black-topped road have been bruising due to improper drainage.

Thangminlen Kipgen asserted that the implementing agencies, the state Govt. and others involved in the construction work should have recognized the plight of the people amidst the terrible road every year and executed the work remarkably.

Interestingly, concerned the contractors reiterated that they are ready to complete the road construction within a given time frame, while alleging the Govt. of Manipur and the Division E.E. in delaying the payment of fund which had already been released by the NEC in the month of May.

Ironically, it also came to light that about Rs. 15 crore kept aside as saving for maintenance of the stretch of road is being embezzled by the concerned Minister and division E.E.in the form of allotting unrelated work orders, alleged the KSO Sadar Hills president while adding that this development has raised concerns whether the said road could be completed in a desirable type.
