Imphal, September 12, 2014: A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided RIMS Administrative Block and the quarters of demoted RIMS Director Professor Sekharjit. The search extended for 16 hours.

With the Chief Account Officer not present at his office, the office has been sealed for a thorough search later in presence of the Chief Account Officer himself.

The CBI team also raided the quarters of former RIMS Dental College Principal-in-Charge Professor Rajiv Ratna Singh who was appointed on contract basis, and seized a number of documents.

A team of CBI accompanied by a large number of security personnel came to the quarters of Dr Sekharjit at around 6 am today with due order from the relevant authority.

As soon as they reached Dr Sekharjit’s quarters, they broke down the gate and went inside and conducted a thorough search of the quarters.

Soon after the raid started at Dr Sekharjit’s quarters, some members of the CBI team went to Professor Rajiv Ratna Singh’s quarters and raided it.

The raid which started at around 7.15 am continued up to 10 am and in the process many documents were seized.

Another team of CBI came to RIMS Administrative Block with an intention to raid it too. Notably, all the documents and articles left behind by Dr Sekharjit with the exception of a few were put together in a room and the room was locked since Prof essor Ch Arunkumar took over the charge of Director and took the Director’s seat.

After examining the few documents available with Professor Arunkumar, the CBI team went away to open the locked room with due permission of the higher authority on another day. Nevertheless, the CBI team took a list of the articles kept in the locked room.

When the CBI team reached the office room of Chief Account Officer cum financial advisor E Debendra, the Chief Account Officer was not found in his office.

The CBI team left the office after sealing it saying that they would raid the office in the presence of E Debendra later.

Dr Sekharjit’s Singjamei residence and his daughter Dr Hemona’s residence located at Takhellambam Leikai, former Director Dr Fimate house at Langol, former Medical Superintendent Dr Shanti’s Khurai Soibam Leikai residence and RIMS Radiotherapy, Head of Department Dr Th Tomcha’s home at Khabam Lamkhai Chumbreikhong were also raided by different CBI teams almost simultaneously.

The raids at Dr Sekharjit’s quarters and former Medical Superintendent Dr Shanti’s house went on till late evening.

Even though Dr Sekharjit is currently out of station, his wife Dr Damayenti and daughter Dr Hemona were present at their quarters when the CBI raided it.

During the raid, no one was allowed to leave or enter the quarters. Yet, Dr Hemona was allowed to leave the quarters for a brief period on the ground that she was to perform an operation at RIMS.

At round 11 am, Dr Sekharjit’s younger sister came to the quarters. Even though she was admitted, she was not allowed to leave.

The CBI conducted massive raids today in connection with corruption charges and other discrepancies committed by Dr Sekharjit when he was the Director of RIMS. Today’s massive raid was conducted after meticulous planning.

The protracted raid and minute examination of documents indicated that CBI would expose many wrongdoings of RIMS authorities and many are expected to face the music. The raid at former Director Dr Fimate’s home revealed that all kinds of anomalies and graft practices have been plaguing RIMS for many years, said a source while speaking to The Sangai Express today.
