Haflong, September 10, 2014: Traffic chaos in Haflong is likely to come down with a stringent intervention by the district administration. In this connection Deputy Commissioner Barun Bhuyan today met the autorikshaw association in presence of the Town Committee Chairman, representatives from police authority and the enforcement division to discuss various issues of traffic congestion in his office chamber, according to a press release.
The meeting discussed the increasing number of autorickshaws in Haflong town. It concluded with a decision by the DC to direct the autorickshaw drivers to park their vehicles at their respective parking lots allocated to them by the Town Committee. For strict vigil stickers are to be pasted on each autorickshaw, indicating the parking area allotted to it.
DC Bhuyan also directed maintenance of separate parking spaces for different types of heavy commercial vehicles as well as light vehicles. He also directed the members of the autorickshaw association to abide by the basic traffic rules.
The DC also made mandatory installation of side glasses, indicator lights and active horn. Auto drivers wearing slippers would not be allowed to drive.
He also directed that no government service holder shall hereby be allowed to ride autorickshaws for commercial purpose, as they added to the traffic congestion. This would be strictly monitored by the authority.
The meeting was attended by ADC MJ Thaosen i/c of Motor Vehicle Branch, ADC L Z Nampui, Chairman of Town Committee K Sengyung and mediapersons.
