Imphal, September 10, 2014: Normal life in the State was thrown out of gear today on account of the 24 hours bandh imposed by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JILPS) demanding the unconditional release of the arrested JCILPS members, suspension of Additional SP Traffic Y Victoria and implementation of ILPS in the State.

There is no report of any untoward incident so far.

All the inter-district passenger services remained off roads although movement of some private vehicles were seen. All the business establishments, schools, colleges and shops remained closed during the bandh.

The three Ima Keithels remained closed and all the shops at Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazaar were shut.

Large numbers of police personnel were seen deployed at various points in Imphal area to prevent any untoward incident.

From the early morning, large number of people were seen coming out in different localities in support of the JCILPS bandh and blocked vehicular movement on all major roads including Imphal-Ukhrul road where tyres were burnt.

The effect of the bandh was also seen at Singjamei parking where a large number of womenfolk came out and blocked the traffic by placing steel water pipes on the middle of the road.

After the arrival of Singjamei police led by Officer-in-charge of the police station, water pipes were cleared off the road but the bandh supporters forced all the vehicles to turn back which were coming along the road.

Extending solidarity to the bandh, local club members and Meira Paibis of Samurou came out and blocked vehicular movement in the area by burning tyres in the middle of the road.

Similar scenes were also observed at Wangoi and Yumnam Huidrom.

At Wangoi Keithel, a brief stand-off broke out between police and bandh supporters but no ugly situation ensued.

The bandh was also enforced at Thangmeiband college gate by a large number of people from early morning. The bandh supporters burnt tyres at various points along the Khoyathong-Thangmeiband road and placed other hurdles disturbing vehicular movements.
