Imphal, September 10, 2014: Taking serious note of the outbreak/contagion of Ebola in some parts of India and neighbouring countries, the National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur has set up four surveillance centres in the State.
According to the NHM Manipur Mission Director, surveillance centres have been opened at Imphal airport, Mao, Jiribam and Moreh so as to monitor/examine all the people coming to Manipur through the four entry points.
Infra Red Laser Thermometers have been stationed at these centres. By using this instrument, health workers can check the temperature of a person without risking physical contact.
On the other hand, two Nigerians who came to Manipur to do research on ngari (fermented fish) are being examined and monitored by health workers to ascertain whether they have been infected by Ebola or not.
Both RIMS and JNIMS authorities have been written to to create separate wards for Ebola-infected patients.
Moreover, Imphal airport authority has been intimated to create a room for detaining foreigners who arrive at the airport with abnormally high body temperature.
The Director further claimed that all possible precautionary measures have been taken up.
