Imphal, September 10, 2014: The last rites of police commando personnel, KS Thotyo, who died in an ambush at Nungshangkong yesterday, was performed with State honours at 1st Manipur Rifles complex today.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Ministers, DGP Shahid Ahmad, other high ranking officials, Thotyo’s wife Worchuirin Kashung, friends and relatives were present at the funeral service.

After Thotyo’s body was brought from JNIMS morgue after conducting post mortem examination, the gathering paid floral tributes and observed silence for the departed soul to rest in peace in his heavenly abode.

Later, a team of 1st Manipur Rifles offered gun salute (sounding of last post) to Thotyo.

He was a personnel of 5th IRB and attached to Imphal West police as a commando.

Speaking to reporters on the sideline of the funeral service, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said that the State Government has started lifting additional security forces from Ukhrul town with the improvement of the security situation.

Saying that around 400-500 commandos, Manipur Rifles and IRB personnel were deployed earlier in the town, Ibobi said that this figure has been reduced as the situation is improving day by day.

However, the State Government is closely monitoring the situation and necessary security measures would be taken up any time if needed, Ibobi declared.

He added that in view of the ongoing UNC sponsored bandh, there is need for deployment of additional security personnel along NH-2 and NH-37 to ensure safe shipment of essential commodities.

Ibobi added that the State Government is putting in effort to thwart future attacks not only at the areas, where miscreants had already laid ambush, but also at other vulnerable areas.

Regarding ILPS issue, the Chief Minister said that the solution to every issue is dialogue.

He said, “We are law abiding citizens, let us not take the law in our hands. Let us discuss what the State Government can do and how a new law can be enacted in this regard.”

KS Thotyo (33) s/o K Solomon of Riha village in Ukhrul succumbed to his injuries at unit hospital of 16 Assam Rifles at Shangshak after he was critically injured in an ambush at Nungshangkong yesterday.
